Featured in Co-Architecture: Ripple House by Zane Carter Architects

Ripple House transforms space into a living artwork. The organic form of Ripple House is a sculptural response to its bayside setting, mirroring the fluid movement of water. Its curved architecture flows seamlessly, eliminating harsh lines and creating a sense of softness and continuity throughout the space. The custom wave-like screen, designed by the architect, extends this concept, mimicking the ripples of water while casting dynamic shadows that shift with the sun. Its pattern, an elegant ballet of converging and diverging droplets, stands as a sculptural ode to nature, casting ephemeral shadows that shift with the sun’s journey, painting the home in light’s delicate choreography. The anodized metallic finish further enhances this effect, reflecting light like sunlight on the water’s surface.

Ripple House exemplifies excellence in both design and planning, delivering a modern luxury residence within the constraints of a compact site, overcoming the common challenges of duplex living — particularly limited natural light and a sense of confinement. The design cleverly maximizes illumination through a double-height void, strategically positioned along the party wall. This void not only channels daylight deep into the heart of the home but also fosters a visual and spatial connection between floors, enhancing openness and interaction among residents. Carefully placed skylights further amplify this effect, while considered spatial planning ensures seamless transitions between living areas, creating the impression of a full-scale residence within a compact footprint.

More than a residence, Ripple House is an immersive experience—where architecture and light harmonize in ever-evolving experience.
