DESIGN CONCEPT
Nestled into the serene hillside of the Byron Hinterlands in New South Wales, this modern luxury home embodies a harmonious blend of contemporary design and environmental stewardship. The home is thoughtfully designed to follow the contours of the hillside, allowing it to naturally blend into the landscape. The use of local, sustainable materials such as reclaimed timber and stone complements the environment while minimizing the carbon footprint. This expansive glazing creates a visual continuity between the interior and exterior, offering residents an immersive experience of the surrounding natural beauty.
CLIMATE
CONSIDERATION
In the warmer climate of the Byron Hinterlands, the use of expansive glass is optimized through innovative strategies. High-performance, double-glazed windows with low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings are employed to reduce heat gain while maintaining clear views.
Thermal Performance and Sustainability
The home’s orientation and passive design principles ensure that natural ventilation and cooling are maximized. Cross-ventilation is facilitated through bi-folding doors, allowing cool breezes to flow through the living spaces. The use of thermal mass, achieved through stone and concrete elements, further helps regulate indoor temperatures by absorbing heat during the day and releasing it during cooler evening hours The design also incorporates strategically placed vegetation to shield the glass from the harshest sun exposure, reducing the need for artificial cooling.
